Blue Morpho

A transformation before your eyes

After leaving the theater, you'll have the rare opportunity to witness one of nature's most amazing transformations - metamorphosis.

Watch as the exquisite Blue Morpho Butterfly unfolds its wings for the first time. Marvel at how some chrysalises actually resemble designer jewelry with beautiful jade and gold colors.

Metamorphosis is a Greek word that means "transformation" or "change in shape." There are four stages in the lifecycle of a butterfly: the egg, the caterpillar, the pupa and the adult.

Did you know?

  • Many chrysalids reflect the habitat in which they are found. If the pupae winters over among dead brown leaves, it is likely to look like or mimic a dead leaf. If it pupates when foliage is green, it may be green.

  • The Blue Morpho chrysalids are pale-green or jade-green and emits a repulsive, ultrasonic sound when touched.
